A little advice:

Now that you are prepared to come down to the Pacific Rim there are just a few things to keep in mind. The last stretch of Highway 4, between Port Alberni and the Pacific Rim Visitor Center, is a long mountainous drive. It is very scenic; however we would not want you to enjoy the vista extensively due to an empty fuel tank and without cell reception to tell anyone. So remember that Port Alberni is the last chance to re-fuel before you get to Tofino and Ucluelet. If you are not used to driving curvy mountain passes don't worry; take your time and use the pullouts frequently if you see cars trailing behind.

Here are the tips again:

  • Nanaimo to Tofino is about 3.5 hours
  • Refuel in Port Alberni, check tire pressure
  • Snow chains or Winter tires mandatory from October 1st - April 30th
  • Port Alberni to Tofino is a mountainous one lane highway
  • Let people pass or pull over
  • Stay safe
