Rating System

INTRODUCTORY

To determine the grade of a particular adventure we consider a number of factors. These include the condition of the terrain and the length of the trip. If your tour is graded introductory, no previous hiking experience is required and you can expect 2-4 hours of physical activity. These walks utilize well formed trails, boardwalks, beaches and in general the walks are up to a half day duration. For you to be able to really enjoy this trip we recommend that you are to walk comfortably for a few hours at a time (with breaks included). 

Suitable for all ages.

 


MODERATE

You will need a reasonable level of fitness. You will need to be able to walk for 3-4 hours at a time on undulating paths. Most of the trails are hard packed sand, boardwalks and rain forest trails. You do not need to have any previous hiking experience before you join this tour. You will receive instructions and a full briefing by your experienced hiking guide before you set off. Contend with occasional steep section but primarily gradual. Few hazards such as uneven terrain and slippery rocks. Good mobility required. May take place in remote location and may require debarking from boat onto rocky shoreline or beach.

Suitable for ages 12 and up.

 


MODERATE TO CHALLENGING

To determine the grade of a particular adventure we consider a number of factors. These include the condition of the walking trails, daily climbing and descending and the duration of the trip. While part of this hike does utilise formed trails, you must be comfortable walking across technical terrain including rocks and boulders, slippery tree roots and scree slopes. There are some unbridged streams to cross and some steep rocky hillsides to scramble up and down. This itinerary requires good fitness, balance, coordination and a good head for heights. The sense of isolation and wilderness is a strong feature of this trip. For you to be able to really enjoy this trip we recommend that you are confident walking across uneven terrain and are able to walk comfortably for multiple hours at a time (breaks included) with plenty of uphill.

CHALLENGING

You need to be fit with previous trekking and scrambling experience. The track is rugged, steep and exposed. Hikers should be able to maintain a slow but steady pace up hill for an hour between rest stops and hiking is designed to be 5 – 9 hours long (not including rests). We kindly ask that all clients submit a skills and experience questionnaire (which we will provide on enquiry) which needs to be approved by the head guide before we can accept your booking. While on the trip if a guide determines that you are not fit enough to complete the journey, endangering themselves or others, you maybe required to leave the trip at your own cost including the costs of air or ground evacuation, extra accommodation and meals. There are no refunds if you fail to complete the trip.
