Description

The pronunciation is simple: [Hi-SHIM-ya-wit]. This name was given to the 5040 Hut by the elders of the Ucluelet First Nation meaning “Gather Together”. Our route will take you from rainforests to snow covered peaks as you explore an awe-inspiring alpine environment. The walking is challenging but well balanced to allow time to relax and enjoy your remarkable surroundings. Staying at a local mountain hut, the trip is suitable for experienced hikers with a head for heights, ready to tackle the many stream crossings and boulder scrambles and accept the nature of changeable mountain weather. You do not need to carry heavy packs, food, camping equipment or tents; just your own personal items, and a sleeping bag.

Back-country Hut

Experience the real Vancouver Island and spend a night in a back-country hut built and operated by the Alpine Club of Canada. This hut is fitted with bunk beds, kitchen, toilets (mostly outdoor) and a communal area. The hut runs on solar, wood pellets and propane. Solar energy is stored in a bank of batteries that power the lighting, fans and auger in the wood pellet stove. There are several power outlets for charging personal devices. This is the only ACC backcountry hut that uses a high efficiency wood pellet stove for heating.
